Preparations for Kenya Open Boxing tournament complete

According to Boxing Federation of Kenya Secretary General David Munuhe, there will be a full roster of athletes including recently SOYA nominated Boniface Mugunde.
Preparations for the 2025 edition of the Kenya Open Boxing tournament are complete, with the tournament set to attract a bevy of boxers from around the country when it begins this month.
The competition will take place April 16 to 19 at Nairobi's Charter Hall, which has been home to the local boxing scene by hosting several events.
According to Boxing Federation of Kenya Secretary General David Munuhe, there will be a full roster of athletes including recently SOYA nominated Boniface Mugunde.
"This is a highly competitive competition which will run for four days and bring together rising stars from the Intermediate Championships and seasoned boxers from top clubs and the national team. It’s both a test of skill and a chance to stake a claim for future national team duties," he told Radio Generation Sport.
Munuhe is expecting a world class competition which will showcase the quality on offer in local boxing circles as well as hand an opportunity to young guns to stake their claim.
"The Kenya Open is not just about crowning champions. This is a key selection platform. Those who emerge victorious will be considered for provincial squads and given priority in upcoming international competitions," he said.
"We urge all eligible boxers to participate in accordance with the rules and regulations, and I wish them all the best."
The Kenya Open comes just weeks after the 2025 National Intermediate Boxing Championship held in Thika, and it is expected to draw a large following when the first bell goes off at ringside.
